New Starlink design has MAJOR improvements, one drawback

Dishy McFlatface became Dishy McRectangle overnight!

Starlink has a new rectangle design. The broadband service, which just exited its beta phase, is now sporting a smaller, rectangle shape.

One drawback to the second-gen dish is the lack of a built-in Ethernet port, which can be found on the original Starlink dish. Instead, the company is selling an Ethernet adaptor for the dish via the Starlink online shop.

Starlink has reportedly tried to make a smaller, cheaper version of the unit which at one point was costing upwards of 3,000 USD to make.

We hope this new design will translate into more orders fulfilled from eager customers!

  1. I love the idea of Starlink. In fact, the connection is currently comparable to most internet connections in most urban areas.

But that won’t be true soon come 2022 with the rapid introduction of 5G internet connections in 60 U.S. cities. 1 gig connection speeds (I got 5G last week). They are hoping 100 million will be connected to 5G by the end of 2022.

So SpaceX really does need the Starlink satellite upgrades approved soon.

  2. Starlink needs to get to a FREE dish with 2yr contract type deal, where monthly cost is under $50. Otherwise only desperate people with no high speed options will buy these things.

  3. so if i ever get this setup (and thats a big "if" at this point) which one will i get? "if" i ever get it.

  4. Before getting excited by new instances of technological confort, why white euro-american settlers don't aknowledge they live on a stolen Native Land to which destruction they, at the very least, passively contribute to, and try to fix that state of violence instituted by their ancestors in deconditionning themselves from the "home of the brave land of the free" fairy tale propaganda, learning actual history for those already starting to deny everything in their head here, and giving back a decisive quantity of control over the land to the First Nations, who take care of Nature in a way more human, reasonnable, pragmatic, balanced, sustainable way ? More technology alone won't save us. NEVER. It's just the endless healong rush forward of us being hamsters in our wheel. The key isn't as sexy and kid-exciting, it's just how we use our mind. The challenges and the margin for a better are in the mind. Not the intellect only. Huge deadspot in the last 1000yrs european made american civilisation. Message from a fellow white european. Peace and Consciousness to all of us.

  5. Screw the dish chit-chat form factor: given your relentless promotion of all things Starlink, Space-X, etc.- when the fuck is Elon going to send YOU to space? Because if anybody can "sell" a story, to share that enthusiasm, to TELL it like it was- it's somebody w/ network media chops/experience. YOU.

  6. I have had some great performance with Starlink, I wonder if there is any difference in performance with the new hardware. The best download speed I have recorded is 411Mbps with average of 200Mbps download. Gaming ping times are lower than the cable internet at my old place too.

  7. One important question as RVer, how much power does it consume? The round dish option with a 100 Watt power consumption is to power hungry.

  8. So now we have to pay extra to be able to connect it to our own router. Why did they get rid of the ethernet port? I wouldn't think that would be much of a cost savings, or is it that they just want to make money selling extra hardware?

  9. No ethernet connection, Seriously? They expect us to pay extra for a wired connection? FFS Elon!

  10. Starlink is the most expensive way of getting connected. Also check out their ridiculous contract details. What a pile of musky smelling bollocks.

  11. I have until Sunday to pay for my Starlink but I'm short until Monday. What happens after day 3, do they cancel and give you a refund? I'm gonna lose my order, this sucks lol

  12. Is it still possible to use the dish with your own router? I assume it is standard POE standard IEEE 802.3af. If not this really really sucks.
