Does Starlink with Obstructions work? We tested Starlink with obstructions for the last 3 month.

Is Starlink really the best solution for rural properties? Many Ranches and Homesteads are located in Valleys Canyons and Forests. These can be a problem for Starlink internet. Why? Because Dishy McFlatface likes a clear field of view at a relatively low angle. Here in Montana it faces mostly North, which means it is competing with south facing landscape. Why is that a problem? Well, on the south facing areas everything grows faster and taller as these areas have the most sun. I checked many properties and it seems like there are always larger trees looking to the north and sure enough those trees block the “Field of view” that Starlink requires. To position the Starlink Satellite Dish on our property so it has no obstructions is tough and requires an additional 150 feet of Cat6. So we decided to place the Starlink Dish on the roof where it has a certain amount of blocking in the field of view and test it out. For the last the month we done that and you might be surprised about the results. You get to see the location and obstructions thru a regular camera as well as on the old and the new Starlink app. And yes we did some speed tests too. Starlink for the win.
